Non-Destructive Evaluation
& Testing

Frasco offers NDE (Non-destructive Evaluation) and NDT (Non-destructive Testing) using the latest and most modern methods. These methods include:

  • Eddy Current
  • Near Field
  • Magnetic Particle
  • Liquid Penetrant
  • Ultra Sonic
  • Thermography
  • Borescope and Visual
  • Positive Material Identification
  • Remote Visual

Eddy Current is one of the most popular and cost-effective means of evaluating equipment. Eddy Current is a method used to determine the amount of surface flaws or hairline fractures that exist in conductive materials. Some of the most common applications for Eddy Current Testing are the inspection of tubes such as chiller tubes, condenser tubes, evaporator tubes, cooler tubes, heat exchanger tubes and so on.

This method is cost-effective, non-destructive and commonly used in a variety of industries including automotive, aerospace, rail, manufacturing, marine and more.

Eddy Current Testing works with minimal preparation and doesn't require the removal of surface paint or surface coatings. This is a huge advantage in painted structures, components and parts.

Eddy Current Testing equipment is also extremely portable and reliable. This makes it an outstanding solution for on-site testing and plant inspections where instant evaluation results are needed. Test results are available the same day allowing quick response times to any issues that are uncovered.

While Eddy Current is most typically used to detect near surface or surface flaws, there are a variety of other types of inspections that are possible such as detecting metal grade or hardness. It's also capable of detecting flaws in ferrous and non-ferrous materials.

Frasco's inspectors are extremely experienced at performing these various non-destructive tests and are certified to:

  • CAN/CGSB-48.9712
  • CWB CSA W178.2
  • API 510, 570, 653

Frasco is fully committed to providing you the highest level of quality reporting and helping you to ensure that your facilities are able to minimize downtime and maintenance expense.

Inspection Methods

Nine Certified NDE / NDT Methods

01

Eddy Current

Industry-leading technology for detecting surface and near-surface defects in conductive materials. No coating removal required — probe arrays allow fast coverage of large areas.

02

Near Field Testing

Specialized electromagnetic technique ideal for inspecting ferromagnetic tubes. Effective in finned or fouled tubes where other methods are impractical.

03

Magnetic Particle

Rapid, reliable detection of surface and slightly sub-surface discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials. Widely used for weld and casting inspection.

04

Liquid Penetrant

Cost-effective method for locating surface-breaking defects on any non-porous material. Applicable to metals, plastics, ceramics, and more.

05

Ultrasonic Testing

High-frequency sound waves detect internal discontinuities and measure wall thickness on vessels, piping, and structural components with precision.

06

Thermography

Infrared thermal imaging reveals hidden defects, moisture infiltration, electrical hot spots, and insulation failures — completely non-contact and non-invasive.

07

Borescope & Visual

High-definition remote visual inspection of inaccessible areas — tubes, tanks, vessels, engines. Real-time video recording for documentation.

08

Positive Material ID

XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence) analysis confirms alloy composition and identifies material substitutions — critical for process plant safety and compliance.

09

Remote Visual

Deploy remotely-operated cameras into confined spaces, tanks, and structures. Safe assessment without entry — full video report documentation.

Certifications & Standards

CAN/CGSB-48.9712
National standard for NDE personnel qualification and certification. Level I, II, and III technicians — the gold standard for NDT personnel in Canada.
API 510 · 570 · 653
American Petroleum Institute certification for pressure vessels (510), aboveground piping (570), and aboveground storage tanks (653) — essential for energy and process industries.
CWB CSA W178.2
Canadian Welding Bureau certification for welding inspection personnel. Ensures structural, pressure, and process weld inspections meet the highest code requirements.
